The Swale Pelham, which originated from the driving fraternity, is unique in that it is the only Pelham that removes poll pressure as the cheeks are attached to the inner loose snaffle rings that float on the straight bar type mouthpiece.
The lack of poll pressure emphasizes the action of the curb chain exerting more pressure on the lower jaw lifting which results in lifting the horse in its movement.
Becoming more popular in the showjumping circles the Butterfly mouthpiece give additional tongue pressure in proportion to the curb pressure.
Seen as a strong bit, the Swales is very effective in the right hands and should be ridden double reined and is made more forgiving over the horses mouth when using the softer density options.
soft very supple and pleasant in the mouth with a flexible steel core giving high security, particularly for sensitive or young horse
hard/firm – the material is firm and no-flexible whilst very pleasant in the mouth, for very strong or horses that lean. A less cumbersome alternative to Vulcanite.
