The trial fee varies per product as this price is related to the retail price.

  • Please take care of the bit, as it is the customer’s – (the holder of the account that the bit is purchased on) responsibility to make sure that the bit is kept in good condition throughout the trial period and thereafter. The customer is also responsible that the bit is kept safe from theft and loss as without return of the bit no refund will be issued.
  • It is recommended that the bits are returned via a tracked postal facility as The Horse Bit Shop cannot be held responsible for any loss or damage in the post when being returned.
  • On return of bits on 30 day trial you will receive a refund for the price of the bit minus the trial fee. No trial fee is charged for a bit not returned to us.
  • We operate a bit library and therefore the trial bit you receive may not be new but will have been fully sterilised and be fit for purpose.  If you have received a trial bit there is an option to exchange it for a brand new bit before the end of the trial period should you decide to keep the bit.
  • Normal wear is accepted on returned bits however we ask that they be returned clean and dry and fit for purpose.  Bits should not be put in the dishwasher or cleaned with abrasive material as this can damage the material.
  • The 30 day trial is not available on every bit.  Any item that does not allow you to select the ‘With 30 day trial’ option is purchase only.
  • Trials are not offered on any non-metal bit due to the fact they are not as resistant to wear and tear and cannot be sterilised to the required standards.
  • On occasion we offer trials on other items (not bits).  The terms and conditions remain the same.
  • Shipping via Royal Mail Tracked 48 is included as standard.  Tracked 24 or courier can be arranged upon request but will be subject to any extra cost.

30 Day Trial Period

  • The trial period ends 30 days following the date of dispatch and this is the return date by which the item should reach The Horse Bit Shop.
  • Dates to which the bit should be returned may be subject to change if the day falls on a Public Holiday.
  • The Horse Bit Shop reserves the right to charge extra trial fees or refuse refund if the bit is returned late.

  • For other countries where shipping times are longer, the trial period will be increased to a maximum of 36 days according to the current postal delivery times. The 36 day trial period will commence from the date that The Horse Bit Shop posts the bit.  This will be the date of the email automatically sent to advise dispatch.
  • Shipping via Royal Mail International Tracked is included as standard.  Shipping via Courier can be arranged upon request but will be subject to any extra costs.
  • Any customs import charges imposed by the receiving Country are payable by the recipient.
  • Any returned bits are expected to be returned via airmail, as surface mail can take up to 50 days for some countries. Please allow plenty time for the bit to reach the UK as  you will not be entitled to a refund until the bit is returned, even if the bit is in transit. The Horse Bit Shop cannot be held responsible for any loss or damage in the post when being returned. 
  • Please ensure that any customs paperwork is filled in correctly and marked as a returned item as we will not be liable for paying or refunding any import charges.

  • We aim to send brand new bits to alleviate the necessity to return to exchange for new however this may not always be possible.  All bits sent will be fit for purpose and fully sanitised.

Prices

Goods are charged at the price shown on the item page on the date the customer places the order and are inclusive of VAT. Prices are subject to change

Payment

Ordering online with us is safe and secure transaction. All payments are managed by our SagePay and WorldPay Payment gateway and use a secure connection to prevent fraud.

Delivery

  • Orders placed using standard delivery aim to despatch on the day of order and aim for your order to reach you within 3 – 5 workings days. .
  • Orders will be despatched via Royal Mail Tracked 48 or Tracked 24 for the U.K depending on the service you selected on checkout. International will be sent using tracked air mail. The website will advise you of the weight and cost of postage at the checkout.
  • If you require an item urgently please contact us to check we have the item in stock before completing the order.
  • If we receive your order after 3.00pm (Monday to Friday) it will normally be despatched the next day, subject to stock availability. Most orders received before 3.00pm are despatched the same day (Monday to Friday).
  • When an Item is out of stock it may take an additional 48 to 72 hours to be despatched, this may also occur at our busiest times.
  • Working days of the week are Monday to Friday, weekends and back or public holidays are not classed as working days. Items bought on the weekend will be processed on a Monday, subject to stock availability. If an item is bought on a Bank or Public Holiday it will be despatched the next Working day.

Returns & Refund

  • If you are not satisfied with the goods for any reason or you have ordered the wrong size please inform us within seven days of your receipt of the products, and we will be happy to exchange or refund the goods as long as the product is in the condition it was received, unused and in its original packaging. Postage and packaging charges are non refundable unless the item is faulty then special arrangements will be made. We advise that if you are returning a product that you use a recordable delivery service as we cannot be held responsible for lose or damage in the post.

Health and Sanitation

  • Should you wish to return a bit to us please make sure that you clean the bit thoroughly. Please clean the bit with warm water only and do not put in the dishwasher or clean with any detergents. All bits returned to us a thoroughly sanitised using specialist antibacterial washes aimed to combat bacteria, germs etc. The Horse Bit Shop cannot be held responsible for any diseases, infections, viruses or mouth sores or ulcers or any other medical condition that appears after trialling a bit from The Horse Bit Shop.

Distance Selling Regulations

  • What happens if the goods don’t turn up, or if you don’t like them once you have had a chance to look at them? You have rights under the Consumer Protection (Distance Selling) Regulations 2000 and the Consumer Protection (Distance Selling) (Amendment) Regulations 2005, referred to as the ‘Distance Selling Regulations’.
  • Briefly, these Regulations state that you should be given clear information about the order and the trader, along with a cooling-off period, protection against credit card fraud and against the demand for payment of unsolicited goods.
  • The Distance Selling Regulations give you the right to change your mind and cancel an order within seven working days. If you do decide to cancel, you should put this in writing, either by letter (a proof of postage certificate or even recorded delivery would be wise), or you can fax or email. A telephone call is not sufficient, unless both you and the trader agree otherwise.
  • The time limits are as follows: goods – seven working days after the day on which the goods are received.
  • If you exercise your right of cancellation after the goods have been despatched to you, you will be responsible for returning the goods at your own cost. You must take reasonable care to ensure the goods are not damaged in the meantime or in transit.
  • You are allowed to open the goods to examine them, but are not allowed to use them. You are responsible for returning the goods in a saleable condition; failure to do so will result in a surcharge being applied to your refund.
  • We will not accept the following items for return under the DSR:
    – Any item which has been used, damaged or is returned in a condition which makes it unfit to sell.
    – Goods paid for online but subsequently collected from us; if you intend to reject such goods you must do so at point of collection.

All European & other overseas countries

CUSTOMS & DUTIES

As the purchaser, you are responsible for any duty, VAT, taxes, handling fees or customs clearance charges etc that are required by your country for importing consumer goods.

We are unable to collect this beforehand, and cannot give you an estimate of cost as charges vary around the world. It is generally procedure that the delivery company will contact you for payment before delivering your goods, although this may vary with different couriers and countries.

We recommend that international customers do prior research to ensure that there are no surprise charges when clearing your delivery through customs, and so you have an idea of what the additional cost may be.

Please contact your local postal or customs office for more information if you are unfamiliar with customs fees and charges.

It is your full responsibility to verify the duties and customs charges and procedures in your country before placing your order. You are responsible for complying with international, national or local laws regulating the importation of products that you may purchase.

If you refuse to pay customs fees and charges at the time of delivery, your order will be returned to us and we will be unable to issue a refund for the shipment costs.
