The mouthing bit with players is the traditional breaking in bit, normally a rubber type bit is introduced first and then a mouthing bit would be replaced, the jointed mouthing bit has 2 joints, which means the pressure of the bit is distributed over both the tongue and bars of the mouth. Because the mouthpiece has two joints, it shouldnt cause any interference with the roof of the mouth. The players, which are attached to the centrepiece, provide the young horse with something to play with, encouraging mouthing and are more fun for the horse than just a plain mouthpiece-encouraging acceptance of the bit.
